Eggplant Black Beauty
A thermophilic plant. Cultivated mainly in polytunnels with seedlings quilted into pots. Cultivation in the field is reliable only in warm years. Sowing in March under cover, May-July in the ground. Harvest: August. Spacing: 60x50 cm. The edible part of the eggplant is the grown, but not yet ripe fruit, valued for its taste. The nutritional value is low and consists primarily in the content of glucose and mineral compounds, especially phosphorus and calcium. Cultivated mainly by amateurs. Belonging to the same botanical family as tomatoes and peppers, the eggplant is very demanding on temperature. In our climate, it is successful in soil cultivation in warm years, planted in sunny, sheltered places. It grows well and bears fruit under glass (greenhouses, hotbeds) and under foil. Requires fertile, humus, easily heating up soil, rich in water. It should be grown on decomposed manure or compost.
